“Chatokri” is a playful word to describe a foodie, someone who indulges in multidimensional, “chatpata” flavors that appeals to and satiates all senses. It is a word we’ve grown up with in our vegetarian Marwari* household, and dictates our most basic instincts, whether in the kitchen, trying out a new restaurant, or wandering in a new country. It is the antiBLAND.

“Matokri” describes someone who is jovial, a bit naughty, bubbly, vivacious and the happy go lucky type. “Matak” literally means to gyrate to a beat, and a matokri moves to her own unique pace and rhythm.

Food is an experience, meant to be shared and enjoyed with others. It is a culmination of not only the ingredients and preparation, but also the environment, the people and the emotions that all go into a singular bite. Chatokri Matrokri is a manifestation of two Marwari conceived paradigms, through which we hope to share with you our unique food experiences through our test kitchen and our travels within our home city of New York and beyond.

*Marwari is the official language of Rajasthan, a state in Northwestern India, also known as “The Land of Kings”
